Competitive Intelligence

Competitive intelligence (CI) is the systematic collection, analysis, and use of information about competitors' products, pricing, promotions, and strategies to inform business decisions.

In ecommerce, competitive intelligence focuses on the publicly observable data that competitors expose through their storefronts: product listings, prices, promotional banners, inventory signals (in-stock vs. out-of-stock), and new product launches. This data, aggregated and analyzed over time, reveals competitors' pricing strategies, seasonal patterns, and product roadmap signals.

Effective CI is continuous, not periodic. A monthly competitor analysis report is useful context; a real-time alert when a competitor drops their bestseller price by 20% is actionable intelligence.
