Discount Depth
Discount depth is the average percentage by which a product is reduced from its regular price during promotional events, used to benchmark how aggressively a competitor discounts.
Knowing that a competitor "runs sales" is not actionable. Knowing that their average discount depth is 22% in Q3 and 35% in Q4, with a maximum observed depth of 50% on Black Friday, lets you calibrate your own promotional strategy precisely.
Discount depth analysis requires historical price data over time. By comparing a product's sale price against its observed regular price (or MSRP), you can calculate the actual markdown percentage for each promotional event.
GetStoreIntel calculates and surfaces average discount depth per competitor and per category, so you can benchmark your promotional positioning against the market.
